Success Seminar 2011: When Faculty Say “X” – Writing and Data Interpretation


The UMBC PROMISE Success Seminar series for graduate students features a variety of topics to assist students with professional development. Guests of this seminars are faculty members from different departments at UMBC. Professors Bob Clark, Stephen Miller, Timmie Topoleski, and Steve Pitts shared their points of views about what faculty really mean when they say something and the actual interpretation students must give to their words. This week, faculty members discuss their expectations about academic writing and their points of view about data interpretation. This hour and a half seminar, held during Fall 2011, is available on the PROMISEagep channel of YouTube as a multi-part series. This online seminar is sponsored by PROMISE: Maryland’s Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), a program of the National Science Foundation. The seminar was held at UMBC: The Honors University in Maryland.
