As a profession, few careers can come close to be as rewarding, both personally and professionally, as nursing. Nurses spend their time helping others and expertly blending care, compassion and science. Most work closely with doctors and other health care professionals. Today, nursing is one of the country’s largest health care professions with a growing need for more nurses in the future. Due to current shortage of qualified nurses, graduates with a nursing degree are almost always assured of a secure career and future.

Most nursing programs require a high school diploma and exemplary scores in high school English, the sciences – chemistry, biology, and physics along with algebra and psychology. A familiarity of technology and computers is also an asset. If you possess leadership and organizational skills, people skills, flexibility, patience, compassion, a calm personality and problem-solving skills, you may have exactly the personality required to excel in the field of nursing.

Students interested in nursing in the U.S. have a number of nursing programs options to choose from. These could range from an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) – normally a two-year program that prepares students for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – a four-year program offered at colleges and universities around the country. Masters Degree in Nursing is also available which is required for those who want to practice in advanced specialty areas. Nurses interested in teaching nursing or becoming a researcher need to obtain doctoral degrees.

How Online Universities Can Advance Your Career

Between your full-time job, your family, your friends, and all your other responsibilities, it may seem like there is little time left over for anything else, especially going to classes. But every savvy business professional knows that in order to get ahead in their field and continue to succeed, they need the credentials to do it. If you have come to a point in your career where you want to take things to the next level but are unsure how you can fit classes into your already over packed schedule, or afford them, then you need to take a look at what online universities can do for you.

Online universities have come a long way over the past ten years. In the first part of the decade, non-accredited online colleges and universities began offering a variety of degrees that were supposed to cater to the busy working adult. Unfortunately, in these early years, the general public did not take these credentials or institutions seriously. However, within the past few years, some of the biggest names in higher education, including most of the Ivy League institutions, have realized the genius and convenience of online classes and started offering degree programs that are designed with people just like you in mind.

Online courses offer lots of benefits that traditional brick and mortar institutions can’t. Perhaps the most unique offering they provide is access to your coursework anywhere in the world at any time of day. All assignments, tests, supplemental materials, and more are found online through the school’s web-based dashboard and can be accessed anywhere and anytime you can log onto the internet. This means that you can do your work first thing in the morning, late at night, or on your lunch break, from the comfort of your home, office, or even commuter train. You can even watch lectures online as well, incredible!

The second major benefit that online degree programs offer is reduced cost. Brick and mortar institutions need to charge significantly higher prices because they are covering the overhead of the physical maintenance and space of the classes, as well as all other expenses. Online universities only require digital space, which is much less expensive to start with and much cheaper to maintain. These cost savings get passed on to you, the student, making an online degree much more affordable and convenient than a traditional degree at a traditional institution.

Perhaps the greatest benefit online universities provide you is the opportunity to chase your career dreams without needing to rearrange your life. When you are a working adult, it is impossible to look at the amount of responsibilities you have on your plate and try to find some that can be cut both in terms of budget and time for you to go back to school. With online degree programs, you don’t need to choose between maintaining your current load of must-do items and advancing your career; they give you the flexibility, the affordability, and the convenience you need to not only make getting your degree a priority but help you succeed. In today’s world, a degree from an accredited online college is regarded with as much respect and weight as degrees from traditional institutions; in some cases, they are prized even more for they show your ability to multi-task, reconcile responsibilities, and continue to perform at your peak. What are you waiting for, enroll today!

Sandy Winslow likes to write about self improvement. If you are looking for a way to move your career to the next level without rearranging your life, online universities can provide what you are looking for.
