For some, a switch in career-oriented goals comes from dissatisfaction in the amount of money one is making. Asking yourself how much money you wish to earn will assist you in pinpointing career goals that will help you achieve your financial desires.
At the present time, are you satisfied with the amount of money you make; do you need more to achieve additional personal plans? For some, money doesn’t even matter and the joy of working in a particular field is enough to provide happiness and complete them as an employee.
Job Satisfaction
Are you happy with the type of job you currently have? Do you find pleasure in the tasks you are responsible for and the skills you are able to use? When going to work, are you whistling a happy tune or dreading the 7-9 hours you may spend in the workplace. Sometimes there are other career paths you could follow that will bring you an increased level of satisfaction and happiness. Are you willing to make the switch?
For some, switching careers will increase job happiness while others feel they have hit a brick wall in the workplace and might need to advance within the ranks. These are the people who set their eyes on career goals, such as obtaining a raise, gaining a promotion or receiving a higher title within the company. Perhaps you are simply unhappy with your work setting and job description and wish to change careers altogether. Ask yourself why you work where you do and does it fulfill all or most of your needs?
Career Analysis: Sometimes there are barriers or reasons why you are not rising in the ranks within your company. Many individuals are passed up for promotions despite a glowing resume or outstanding qualifications. Office politics, discrimination and favoritism are some of the common reasons some employees are unable to achieve the career goals they have set for themselves.
When it isn’t beneficial to fight against these injustices and inequalities, some people have found it much easier to make a career move. But sometimes it will not help your current standing to leave a job. Common reasons include convenient location, great benefits, various perks for long service or no job lined up to take its place.
